book club participation medal
Apr. 11th, 2022 03:19 pmI decided to actually try and seriously participate in a book club style thing (well, it's just a discussion group on Discord, but still) For Real, so that's how I ended up finally starting The Count of Monte Cristo.
I like it so far - the English translation I'm reading is apparently the best one and doesn't censor or abridge anything.
However, as a result, the book is literally thicker than a brick. Kind of incredible.
I'm supposed to read up to the end of chapter 10 by Saturday morning - right now, I'm still in the middle of chapter 5.
I think the goals my book club have set are perfectly reasonable; it's just hard to find enough quiet time to actually focus on reading.
I can't really read well if I hear voices around me, like from the TV or something. And my mom is basically always watching TV. So. Yeah.

I'd try going to the library to just sit there and read but it would be admittedly not as comfortable as it is at home, and there might still be voices to distract me anyway so skjdfnalskfbaf I just can't win
I'll try and think of something. Now that it's starting to get warmer, I might pick some times to go to some pleasant place outdoors to try and read.
