i've recently been getting sucked back into the world of k-pop and i just want to say that the songs that have been dropping recently are so good

i'm glad that loona has been going back to more colorful and bright stuff (as opposed to their edgy title tracks from the past) and this song is so catchy. flip that. that that that that that that

fromis never misses and they're here again with a fun summer song. i saw some people saying that the set is cheap, but idk to me, it's just nice and refreshing and not overly complex...

absolute slayage, AS EXPECTED OF MY QUEENS. yeonjung is my favorite and she looks so stunning and radiant. sad this release didn't have more songs in it but oh well

i'm still really surprised gfriend just up and imploded, but at least we still have these 3 in a group together and this is another fun summer song. i'll definitely continue to keep an eye out for them

I heard that the k-pop groups loona and seventeen are going on tour here in the USA, so out of curiosity, I took a look at the prices for the venues near me and my god... what these resellers are doing should qualify as actually criminal. i've seen some tickets go for over $2000! that's insane... it's really unfair to the genuine fans who just want to go see their favorite groups perform 🙁

i'm not sure how ticket companies handle this kind of thing, to be honest... i guess this is why, in the end, the fanclub lottery ticketing system that johnny's uses is the best. the probability of tickets going to actual fans (not those who just joined the fanclub to scalp tickets) is much higher and it's more fair. on the other hand, it would also kind of be annoying to join a fanclub of every single artist or group you want to see perform, especially if you're just a casual fan, so having general public ticket sales has that upside to it.

i think the most perfect balance possible would be to have some quantity of general public tickets available, while also reserving a certain number of seats for registered fans, or at least allowing registered fans to pick their seats first for a period of time. hopefully, more companies will adopt this method because it's really sad to see tickets sell out in like 10 minutes only to go back up at hyper-inflated prices

So I'm actually getting back into watching anime lately, especially the ones that are currently airing right now, and here are some titles I've really been enjoying:

well the good news is i actually don't need to go to the office until next month HAHA i love to win

anyway, i haven't played any games besides gacha in a hot second. i have so many games already in my library for both PC and multiple consoles and i just. have not gotten around to them yet. it's been years.

at least i've stopped myself from buying any more games unless there's one i REALLY want and it's on sale for a REALLY good price. cause it would just be stupid to not buy it then, right? right.

i haven't played visual novels in ages, so that might be one of my go-to picks for whenever i get around to playing games next. eyeing OshiRabu in particular - it looks super up my alley so i'm excited for that! GL is love, GL is life

please no

Pretty sure that when I wake up tomorrow, I'm going to have to go back into the office physically for work as opposed to just working from home. Well, it was a nice run of being in the comfort of my own home, but now unfortunately, I will have to see people and people will have to see me. Horrific, to be honest.

Apparently we're going to get at least 2 days of telework a week, which is definitely better than 0.
Thing is that I don't really feel like I truly get anything beneficial out of going to the office.

For starters, it's a considerable drive away, and also I think my coworkers are just as socially awkward as I am, so... please don't make us be near each other! LOL

At least it'll make me value the time I spend at home even more. I'll try and think of it that way. Silver linings and all.

I decided to actually try and seriously participate in a book club style thing (well, it's just a discussion group on Discord, but still) For Real, so that's how I ended up finally starting The Count of Monte Cristo.

I like it so far - the English translation I'm reading is apparently the best one and doesn't censor or abridge anything.
However, as a result, the book is literally thicker than a brick. Kind of incredible.

I'm supposed to read up to the end of chapter 10 by Saturday morning - right now, I'm still in the middle of chapter 5.
I think the goals my book club have set are perfectly reasonable; it's just hard to find enough quiet time to actually focus on reading.
I can't really read well if I hear voices around me, like from the TV or something. And my mom is basically always watching TV. So. Yeah.

I'd try going to the library to just sit there and read but it would be admittedly not as comfortable as it is at home, and there might still be voices to distract me anyway so skjdfnalskfbaf I just can't win

I'll try and think of something. Now that it's starting to get warmer, I might pick some times to go to some pleasant place outdoors to try and read.

I'm almost done with the second season of 99.9 Keiji Senmon Bengoshi (99.9 Criminal Lawyer), where Matsumoto Jun is the starring lead as a charming oddball~

I love it so much omg, it's funny and even if I don't understand all the Japan-specific jokes, there are usually translation notes included in the subs to help me out :D helps me learn some things I didn't know before!

And I really love how Miyama goes about solving cases, it's quite unique and interesting to watch things unfold!

Definitely recommend to anyone who's a fan of mysteries and crime stuff 👍

After I finish the last episode of the second season, I'll have the 2021 SP episode to watch for about 2 more hours of fun. And then the wait begins for the BD/DVD release of the movie 👀

Some Miyama gifs because Miyama Jun is Good Jun:

Elsewhere, I did a little write-up of some feelings I had about Record of Memories and thought I'd cross-post here... as well as add some things since I had previously reached the character limit.

last week, i finally got the opportunity to visit Daiso again for the first time in a couple of years, super exciting 🥳
the inside of the store was so sterile and clean, definitely appreciated that
there was so much cute stuff in there that it should have been criminal

Currently, I've been watching Miss Sherlock to make the most of my HBO Max free trial and I love it so far ♡

Female Sherlock and Watson is everything I never even knew I needed in my life

They're precious, I love their dynamic together kjsdksjf

I only have a bit left until I'm finished, hopefully I'll be done with it by the end of today.
Definitely a drama I'd recommend to those who like mysteries, crime stuff, etc 👍
(And also if you can easily put on your shipping goggles 😎)

I think the next drama I want to continue watching is Kieta Hatsukoi (My Love Mix-Up on Viki)
I watched the first 2 episodes already, but then I realized that going further required a Viki subscription
Figured I could come back to it whenever after I've exhausted my free trials of other services
I've heard only great things about it, plus it has a member of Naniwa Danshi in it, so that's great for my Janiwota self heh

so i'm finally dabbling in the world of takarazuka, and the woman that stole my heart was none other than:

i'm currently compiling a list of novels i plan to eventually read:
  • annie on my mind (nancy garden)
  • fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe (fannie flagg)
  • liar & spy (rebecca stead)
  • one last stop (casey mcquiston)
  • sharp objects (gillian flynn)
  • waiting in the wings (melissa brayden)
  • written in the stars (alexandria bellefleur)
before, i was in the middle of reading the price of salt (patricia highsmith), but i misplaced the book last summer somewhere at home and i still haven't found it. so. that is on hold indefinitely.

i also got a kobo clara hd, so now i can borrow e-books from my local library right from home via overdrive, which is nice.
the screen doesn't hurt my eyes and it has a really long battery life, which i appreciate

it feels nice to finally be reading again

it feels weird to officially be in 2022. as in, that number is so high. how did we get here. it feels wrong. are you sure we didn't miscalculate.

lately, i've been in my head a lot mulling over my past, which is honestly annoying... because why am i even bothering. i can't return to the last decade and undo my actions, fix my wrongs, stop my dumb younger self. i just need to take my numerous Ls, accept what happened, and move on. alas, the brain says, no, i don't think i will. at least i actually have therapy scheduled to start up soon so hopefully i can actually Do Something About It and start to cope better if i'm lucky.

on a more lighthearted note, we got our first snowfall of the year and it's beautiful, serene, peaceful. i really do love snow - when i'm not obligated to go anywhere, that is. i hope it's not the only snowfall we'll get this year. maybe i'm misremembering, but i feel like my area has been lacking in snowfall in the more recent years, so i'm happy that there is some progress towards my personal snowfall quota. ramp those numbers up, please.

i'm sick for basically the first time since the pandemic started...
i think it's just a head cold because i was out in the dreary weather without a proper scarf and i let myself get too chilly.
but still, i forgot how much being sick is annoying!
i hate constantly sneezing and sniffling...
i took some cold and flu medicine, had a warm shower, and have been keeping warm, so hopefully it's gone by tomorrow evening.

other than that, i've been finally getting back to watching Jane the Virgin (i last watched it up to season 3 way back in 2017).
currently on season 5, which is the final season, so it's not long until it's over...
currently frustrated with where the plot is, so hopefully the show ends on a satisfying note...
i forgot how fun and easy to watch these kinda shows are.
when i'm indecisive on what to watch, i usually turn something like that on so that i can just relax and unwind.

i've also been slowly continuing to watch Shitsuren Chocolatier - just finished episode 3.
it's a hot mess and kinda cheesy, but that's why i love it.
again, it's one of those shows that's fun and easy to watch.
i also love Jun's look in this drama - very cute and fluffy 🥰
only downside is it really makes me want chocolate 🍫

So recently, I watched both Alice in Borderland and Squid Game to completion...
Pretty heavy stuff back to back... definitely lots of gore and other very distressing material to be aware of...

Honestly, I think Alice in Borderland had a higher shock factor that affected me more than Squid Game did.
Like, more scenes in Alice in Borderland made me actually physically cringe.
Both were good in their own right and I enjoyed watching them.

I hope Alice in Borderland gets a second season because... with that ending, it definitely needs one.
I think this is the first drama starring Yamazaki Kento I've ever seen, now that I think about it.
Also, it was interesting seeing Machida Keita play his role considering I've only ever seen his acting in Cherry Magic LOL
(Speaking of Cherry Magic, I've been tempted to pick up the Blu-Ray box because it has English subtitles included and I want to support however possible in hopes for a second season, but also that would involve spending more money than I should be spending at the moment...)

On the other hand, I think Squid Game would be fine with or without a second season.
I think something like a prequel would be good for that.

Not sure what to start next, I have a number of J-dramas in my backlog to get through.
Was considering watching Shitsuren Chocolatier to see the pitiful ChocoJun in action, but also I still need to finish Nemesis, so...
In terms of Western shows, I keep hearing a lot about Succession, so that has me intrigued as well...

Too much to watch, too little time

ribon: (happy)
i finally got around to finishing Twelve Forever, it's such a cute and sweet show...
it reminds me so much of my own middle school days...
it's on Netflix so that definitely makes it convenient accessibility-wise

i have decided that Reggie is now my daughter (she just like me fr)

i'm glad i'm getting back into cartoons more, it's a nice repose
they're especially easy to watch over a meal or if i have a small break

i've heard The Owl House is super good, so hopefully i can check that one out soon :D

this work project i'm currently working on has been absolutely killing me...
i just want the deadline to roll by so i can be done with it already!
there's so much to do and i'm overwhelmed <_______>

but also the days are going by too fast...
it feels like there aren't enough hours to get everything done by the time i'm zoned in and focused...
SIGH well in about 2 weeks time, it'll be OVER and then hopefully the days will be not as stressful...

in other news, lately i've been remembering just how much nogizaka46 used to mean to me!
first idol group i ever got properly super invested in!
(before that, i had lightly dabbled in hello!project groups such as berryz, momusu, and buono!)

a bunch of my faves have graduated already by now though...
i only really knew 1st gen and a bit of 2nd gen well (and of course miona is gone too, rip)
i keep telling myself i should dive back in and get to know the newer generations, but...
is it really the same anymore? i'm not sure...
well, at least if i ever decide to take a dip back into the waters, there's plenty of content for me to peruse

most days lately, i've felt kind of unmotivated, which isn't great considering i have weekday expectations to meet and all. it's like i tell myself i'm gonna focus and hunker down on my most imperative tasks, but then i end up just spacing out or picking at something even when i've put all of my distractions away. super frustrating tbh. i think waking up earlier helps me feel better, but i also want to make sure i get enough sleep rather than run on low batteries all day.

well, at least i have something to look forward to; next week, i'm going to see a re-screening of spirited away at the movie theater so that should be nice. i've only ever seen it on a tv, so it'll be cool to see it in an ideal setting on the big screen. i just hope i don't see anyone i know there when i go, because i don't know if i'll be up for small talk and catching up and all that <__>

Lately, I've been passing the time by going on evening bike rides and backing up my files. Super exciting, I know. But I can feel myself getting stronger as time goes on. I do laps in a medium-sized parking lot that's built on an incline. At first, I could only do 10 laps in a day before being beat, but then that number increased to 15. Then I started doing 2 separate rounds of 15 laps with a small break in between, so I got up to 30 laps total. Now, I'm up to 35 laps in a day. It's been ideal exercise considering that the weather has been so nice lately and the breeze is refreshing :D Definitely better than just using a bike machine in a stuffy indoor gym 🎶

It's been a while since I've posted! Since I've been gone, I've played Persona 5 Royal (10/10) and watched some fun things, like Good Omens, Desert Hearts, Chicago, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Jennifer's Body... and right now, I'm in the middle of watching Twelve Forever, which is super cute and fun :D

Was feeling kinda down about Arashi's hiatus again, but I have been revisiting some concerts, like Japonism and How's It Going?
Also, the first Pikanchi movie is one of my favorites, so sometimes I rewatch it for comfort :D Sometimes, you just need a kinda trashy teen movie to relax to, you know?

I also got my Arafes 2020 Blu-Ray in the mail, but I haven't touched it yet because I'm afraid of what emotions I'll experience watching it again :D
